The Benefits of Consuming Smoothies Regularly
By: Jenn Moss
We all know that incorporating fruits and vegetables into our diets is beneficial for our health. However, we sometimes do not have the time to prepare or, maybe would prefer an easier way to get the recommended servings into our diet. And although juicing can be a great way to do this, you do miss out on the fiber that accompanies these fruits and vegetables.
That is where smoothies come into play. With an array of different flavors, real fruit smoothies not only taste amazing but are great for you. Especially consumed after a hard workout, repleting your energy and boosting you with feel-good carbs.
If that was not enough reason, you may want to consider these benefits:
1. Helps to Control Cravings
With the addition of protein powder, smoothies can keep you feeling full for longer. Packed with nutrients, and natural sugar, it can fend off cravings for foods that are in refined sugar, like excess cookies and ice cream. You can easily make your own “nice-cream,” blending just banana and almond milk and freezing it for a little treat.
2. Aids in the Digestion Process
Green smoothies are packed with vegetables such as spinach and kale. These combined with the fiber found in fruit as well, helps with the digestion process. Fiber helps bind food, so it can easily pass through the gut. And the best part is that you can hardly taste that you are eating vegetables, as the fruit transforms the flavor.
3. Helps with Bones, Skin, Nails, Hair, and Joint Health
Adding fruits that are high in calcium can help support your body. Additionally, incorporating collagen powder to your smoothies will help with this as well. Collagen is high in protein and helps strengthen and protect your hair, skin, nails, bones, and joints.
4. A Powerhouse of Vitamins
Smoothies that contain a varied mix of fruits and vegetables, carry loads of different vitamins and minerals, such as vitamin c, b, and more. By combining all these together, you have a one-stop shop for your vitamins and minerals for the day.
The best thing about smoothies is that it is a refreshing part of your day. Whether you opt to have it first thing in the morning for a boost, midday for a pick-me-up, or in the evening for a dessert, smoothies are a great healthy choice.
