Benefits of Sleeping 8 Hours Per Night
Getting a full 8 hours of sleep can be challenging for most people. It's not impossible, however, if you develop a pattern your body can get used to. Some people seem to be able to function on less 8 hours, but that doesn't make it healthy. Lack of sleep has been linked to health issues including high blood pressure and heart disease. It can also raise cholesterol levels and increase the chances of a stroke.
When a person is sleep deprived, their body goes into stress mode. This means it produces more stress hormones which can make it even more difficult to sleep. Stress hormones produced by lack of sleep can lead to a variety of health risks, including risk of heart problems and strokes. It can also cause inflammation levels in the body to increase, which is known to lead to many other health risks, including aging the body faster than it otherwise would.

Studies have revealed people who do not get more than 7 hours of sleep per night are more prone to be overweight or even obese. The research has shown, an improper amount of sleep can throw off the hormones that regulate a person’s appetite. The proper amount of sleep is just as important as what and how much you eat. Also, it is advised not to lay down or go to be for a minimum of three hours after eating. When your body is digesting food, your energy is going towards digestion. You want to be able to go into a restful sleep, so if your body is using that energy to digest, it can prevent proper sleep or even contribute to not being able to sleep at all or sleep restlessly with intervals of waking up frequently.
People who are prone to depression are especially vulnerable to bouts if they don’t get proper sleep. Improper sleep can affect the balance of chemicals in your body, including the production of serotonin. A deficiency in serotonin can cause episodes of depression, which can affect the rest of your day and functionality. If someone is prone to depression, a solid eight hours of sleep can help to ward this off. Sleep is the time when your body rejuvenates its cells. That’s why, when a person is ill, most often times the doctor recommends rest. Your body can heal itself when at rest. So, it’s important in any case to get proper sleep each night for good health and wellness in general.
